DESCRIPTION

Poor House Challenge

2012

Poor House Challenge 2012 is not only about testing your physical strength, but your cardio, navigation, and mental toughness as well

 Are YOU ready?

Rules: Athletes must be 16+

You must be part of a 2-person team.  Registration is $80/team until Feb 15th

Teams will start at preset intervals. Results will be determined by fastest course times.  Teams will be given an object (ex. a 5 lb. bag of flour) to be used as a score sheet.  Teams that return with a damaged or lost score sheet will be subject to time penalties of 20 minutes.

Teams will be given a map of Poor House Farm showing the locations of Challenge Stations.  When the race starts, teams will proceed to Challenge Station 1, complete the exercise and get a proctor to initial their Score Sheet. Teams will continue to navigate through all Stations in order to receive all proctor initials and complete race! If a team crosses the finish line without a proctor’s initials, that team must go back to the missing Station and complete the exercise, at which time they may proceed to the finish line.

Teams must complete each Challenge exercise in its entirety to receive the approval and initial of proctors.  If a team is unable to complete the exercise after three attempts, they must complete 25 Burpees and be subject to a 60-second time penalty.

If a team arrives at a Challenge Station and the proctor is busy with another team, the latter team must wait patiently for completion.

Stations will include such Challenges as Tire Flip, Log Pull, Timed Planking, Plyos, Slosh Tube Walk, Agility work, Partnered crunches & squats, Wheelbarrow,  Barrel Roll, and much more.

Awards will be given to the top 3 fastest teams overall in the Male/Male, Male/Female, and Female/Female categories.

The Poor House Challenge is made up of 15 stations strategically placed throughout the park.  You will be given a map with the station's locations and a few landmarks to gather your bearings on.  Your job is to navigate your way from station 1-15 in sequential order, get the proctor's signature, and head to the next station.  How you traverse the park is up to your team.  There will be less challenging ways to go but that option may add time to your Challenge.

Fitness Challenges are subject to but not necessarily limited to - timed planking, plyos over a hay bale, assisted push ups, assisted crunches, standing squats,  and wheel barrowing.  After the dry run of the event we will have video of most of the actual stations.

We will have 15 stations to complete and if you were to run the course "as the crow flies" you will run roughly 4.8 miles.  If you wish to traverse an "easier" way to each station you will ultimately add time to your run.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I carry water? - YES! PLEASE DO!  We will allow a runner's belt or Camelback style hydration systems.  Sorry, no backpacks to carry the bottle.  You may be inclined to use it for the score card.

What is a Burpee? - Click HERE for a link or ask your favorite Gold's Gym trainer.

How will I know where to go? - You will receive a map of Poor House Farm and you are on your own.  I would suggest visiting the park to familiarize yourself with the surroundings and learn to use a compass.   The park is not that big, you will get your bearings quickly.

Will there be mud? - Unless it rains the night before no.  We are not hosting a obstacle course style event with walls to climb.

What if I cannot find a partner? - Let us know or post something on the Facebook page.  I'm sure you are not the only one in this boat and we may be able to match you up with someone.

What if I cannot do the Challenge Station? - You are given three chances to properly complete the Challenge.  For example if you are doing push ups and the proctor is counting 1, 2, 3, 3, 3 you must not be doing a proper push up or they would of counted it.  If you physically cannot continue to push up tell the proctor and you will get a time penalty noted on the score card and have to do some Burpees instead of the Challenge Station.   You MUST try to complete each station.

Why do I need a object as a scorecard? - We wish to increase the challenge.  It's all in good fun right?

What is I drop my score card accidently? - Sorry but a damaged score card is still damaged and you will be faced with a time penalty.

Will I get dirty?
- Yes.  We will have a few Challenge Stations where you will be on the ground but remember there will be no mud to crawl through.
