Another Year is in the books.  We saw many athletes who were there from the beginning.  Great job parents to motivate the kids to another Kid's Tri the Valley but I have to ask if we will see you at one of our adult events in 2012?

Many thanks to Sparkle the Clown, Team Tri-Performance, Bicycle Outfitters and the great group of volunteers that stay with us event after event.

If you have a question, comment, concern, or complaint please let us know what they are.  We would like the opportunity to know what your concerns are so we may fix it in the future.

Location:

The pristine backdrop of Franklin Park will be the background of you running through the finish line.

Due to the amount of effort it takes to check bicycles and helmets it is impossible to do this on Saturday morning and still host a great event.  We do not have the manpower to do both so please respect our desire to keep all the athletes safe and see you in Leesburg Friday night.

Volunteers – If you wish to volunteer for this event please use the Volunteer tab on top and we will be in touch.  We are looking for responsible people to help out with this event.  The enthusiastic volunteers will receive food and goodies for their efforts.

Athletes or the athlete parents are responsible for counting the completed laps

Course Description - Kids Tri the Valley will kick off at 8:30 am with Wave 1 (ages 6 and 7), Wave 2 (ages 8 and 9), Wave 3 (ages 10, 11, and 12), and finally Wave 4 (ages 13, 14 and 15).

Wave 1 – Ages 6 and 7 will start the swim portion with a single length of 25 yards and every athlete will have 15 seconds between athletes, followed by a 1 mile cycle and a 1/4 mile run.

Wave 2 – Ages 8 and 9 will swim 50 yards by going the length and return on the opposite side of the lane with 15 seconds between athlete, 1 1/2 mile cycle, and strong a 1/4 mile run finish.

Wave 3 – Ages 10, 11, and 12 will snake swim for 100 yards with 15 seconds between athlete,  cycle 2 miles, and then run 1/2 mile.

Wave 4 – Ages 13, 14, and 15 will snake swim a 150 yard swim with 15 seconds between athlete, do a quick 2 mile cycle, and run 3/4 mile cross-country around the pool.

All distances are subject to change and are approximate.

For the non swimmers there will be a Duathlon set up similar to the Triathlon.  We will have a cross country run instead of the swim portion.

 Wave 1- 6 and 7 - will be a 1/10 mile run, 1 mile cycle, and finish with a 1/4 mile run.

 Wave 2 - 8 and 9- will be a 1/4 mile run, 1 ½ mile cycle and a 1/4 mile run.

Not to forget the little ones, we will have a Run Trike Run!  Open to ages 3, 4, and 5 who want to do what the elder sibling is doing or just wants to get active in a safe environment.  This will be a run through a closed rectangle and then trike around the perimeter of the rectangle and finish with a run back through the rectangle to end where they started.  We had a successful run at this last year and will continue it..

We ask that the support teams for the athletes please respect the tape and fences and allow LoCo Racing to do their job in providing a safe and fun event.  We will do our best to provide a SAFE and FRIENDLY course.

Race Numbers In your race packet you will have three race numbers that you must have in the appropriate places in order to participate in the event.

Run Number – This is the largest number in the packet.  You must have this facing front during the                 bike and run portion of the event.  If you use a race belt great if not safety pins work.

The numbers are for athlete identification as well as photographs

Body Marking This will be completed by the LoCo Racing Staff the morning of the event upon arrival.

Transition Area – The TA is a secure place for various reasons.  Safety is a major concern and for this you must walk your bike out of and into the TA.  Please watch for other athletes entering and exiting the TA.

Swim Start – Each wave has different distances.  Wave 1 will start and complete one length of the pool, exit the pool and walk out of the pool area and head to transition.  Wave 2 will be one lap where the athlete will swim on the right side of lane 1 and touch the opposite wall and return on the left side of the same lane.  Wave 3 and 4 will be a snake swim where the athlete will swim on the right side of lane one touch the opposite wall and return on the left side of the same lane then go under the rope into the next lane to the left and repeat the process until the distance is completed.  They will then exit the pool and walk out of the pool area then head to transition.

Dropping Out – If you must drop out of the event it is imperative to inform a LoCo Racing volunteer.

After the race:

All athletes will receive a t-shirt from Reston Shirt and Graphics in their race packet  and a finisher’s medal upon completion.

Food and refreshments will be available for the athletes and lots more available at Franklin Park so check out the link above for all the park has to offer.
